Eye of Horus Gambler Review
The original Eye of Horus is still a pretty popular game from Reel Time Gaming, and they have now decided to follow up their success with Eye of Horus Gambler. Why they have chosen the subtitle “Gambler” is a bit of mystery to us, as they have actually removed the classic “double or nothing” gambling feature you could try your luck with in the original game. This exciting sequel has been through a number of other upgrades too, not least the 3 options you now get when you trigger the all-important bonus round.
Just like the first game, Eye of Horus Gambler also plays out on 5 reels, 3 rows and 10 paylines, and you can place bets between 10p and £100 per spin across all handheld and regular platforms and devices. Mobile and tablet play is no problem in other words, and you’ll benefit from an expanding wild symbol during the base game also here. The visual design and the symbols are more or less identical as far as we can tell, and the sound effects and background music still gives this sequel that nostalgic brick and mortar feel.
As with most any book series off-shoot (or clone), you are really just grinding the base game spins to get to the bonus round. This happened 2 times for us in our 200 spins test run, and you can read all about that further down in the review. Needless to say, this is where most of the 50,000x potential is allocated, and this max win is 10x bigger than most book series slots.
Do keep in mind the £250,000 cap though, and all in all Eye of Horus Gambler is a decent enough twist to the tale of the book slots.Similar Slots:

What are the bonus features?
You will not find all that many bonus features in the Eye of Horus Gambler slot, as this game is modelled after the popular book slot series. In the base game you will benefit from a Horus Wild symbol, and this will expand to cover the entire reel whenever it lands. The wild symbol will step in for all regular symbols to help you form winning combos, and therefore it cannot step in for the scatter/bonus symbol.
Free spins in Eye of Horus GamblerThe scatter symbol in this game is a temple with the sun shining through the opening, and you need to land 3 of this symbol anywhere on the screen in the same spin to trigger the free spins bonus round. Before anything else happens, you will get a scatter payout of 2x, 20x or 50x, depending on how many scatters you triggered the feature with (3, 4 or 5 respectively).
Instead of a special symbol being chosen as the expanding symbol, which is common for many of the book slots out there, Eye of Horus Gambler adds a somewhat different twist to the mix. Whenever you land one or more of the Horus Wild symbols, it will not only expand to cover the whole reel, it will also upgrade the symbols on the tablets above the reels and give you extra spins.
Depending on which free spins option you choose, you will have a different set of symbols above the reels in the form of tablets.
The Eye of Ra on top of the expanded wild becomes active, and shines its light on the tablets above the reels, effectively transforming the selected symbols into the next symbol in the hierarchy.Depending on which free spins option you choose, you will have a different set of symbols above the reels in the form of tablets. The Eye of Ra on top of the expanded wild becomes active, and shines its light on the tablets above the reels, effectively transforming the selected symbols into the next symbol in the hierarchy.
Before the free spins play out however, you will get to choose between 4 different bonus round modes. These 4 free spins options come with different numbers of spins, volatility and symbol upgrade configuration. Here is an overview of what you can expect:
- 12 free spins (low volatility) - all 5 premium symbols are sorted chronologically on the upgrade tablets above the reels.
- 10 free spins (medium volatility) - the lowest value flower symbol is replaced by another Ankh symbol, effectively giving you 2 Ankh symbols + scarab, eagle and dog symbols on the upgrade tablets.
- 8 free spins (high volatility) - the 2 lowest value symbols (flower and Ankh) are upgraded to the scarab symbol, effectively giving you 3 scarabs + eagle and dog symbols on the upgrade tablets.
- Mystery Choice - gives you a random number of spins and symbol upgrades combined from the 3 regular options.
When you land an expanding Horus Wild, it will upgrade only the first symbol for the 12 spins option above. However, it will upgrade both Ankh symbols or the 3 Scarab symbols at the same time if you choose the 10 spins or 8 spins option, respectively. This is part of the benefit by going for a higher volatility option, but in addition the symbols you start out with on the upgrade tablet are also more valuable.
How to play
The interface of Eye of Horus Gambler is about as simple as the gameplay itself. Stil, we will walk through everything you should know here, even though it might be a bit boring for experienced players. If you are a beginner you should probably read through this though, but those who know how to play a slot game can probably skip to the next part of the review.
The hamburger menu down in the left-hand side corner opens up a few options for you.
You can check out the paytable via the grid icon that’s first in line. Here you can see all the symbol combinations and their respective values, and you should know that this is a static paytable that does not upgrade according to your bet level.Game workflowThis means that you need to divide each symbol combination value with the number of fixed ways to win (10 in this case) to get how much each combination pays per total stake. The Eye of Horus thus pays 50x your total stake, for example, and it’s the highest paying regular symbol in this game.
You can also scroll to the next page to read more about the bonus round, and the information comes with some useful visual illustrations. The “?” icon takes you into the game rules section, where everything about Eye of Horus Gambler slot is explained in some detail. You will also find some stats revealed here.
You can then use the up/down arrows on the left to set your bet level between 10p and £100 per spin, which is a fairly standard bet range. If you want, you can set up the autoplay feature with between 10 and 100 autospins, and you also have the option to stop the autospin feature when you win or lose a given amount of your bankroll.

The 200 Spins Eye of Horus Gambler Experience
We don’t know if we should consider this an “official” a book-series slot, or if it’s more of an off-shoot.
Either way, the gameplay is quite similar, and the bonus round is what it’s really all about here. We were eager to see what Reel Time Gaming had cooked together with Eye of Horus Gambler slot, and we loaded up our first 100 autospins in great anticipation. Not least the 50,000x potential had us somewhat excited, although we had little hope of landing such a life-changing win in just 200 spins. Eye of Horus Gambler is a kind of game that really should come with the possibility of ultra fast spins. There is not even a regular fast play option here, although you can shorten the spin time by clicking again.
PaytableThe reason we’re saying this is because all you really do here is wait to trigger the all-important bonus round. We had so many dead spins and minute wins between the 2 bonus rounds we triggered, that we wish it was possible to just burn through the base game spins in minutes. We got plenty of expanding wilds in the base game by the way, but only 1 time in 200 spins did it actually lead to a win (which was too small to remember anyway).
We got our first bonus round after 50 spins, or so, and we went with the 8 spins high volatility option to see what this game was made of. We landed mostly dead spins here too, but got a few symbol upgrades via the expanding Horus wilds. In the end, we landed a bigger win, and this resulted in a total payout of 78x.
The base game did surprise us with a 40x win after 100 spins or so, and this came about as we almost filled the reels with nothing but A symbols. We then triggered the bonus round again towards the end of our session, and this time we decided to go with the medium volatile 10 free spins option. We got 3 extra spins from a double wild, and the Horus symbols took their turn upgrading the symbols. After this almost all the symbols we landed were higher value dog symbols, and this resulted in a decent total payout of 136x our stake.
Review Summary
As you can probably figure from the above, we came out of our 200 spins session with a nice little profit, and there is definitely potential and horsepower under the hood in this somewhat understated game. The base game can be a grind though, but you will sometimes land bigger wins to keep you going there too. If you enjoy book-series type slots, Eye of Horus Gambler adds a nice little twist to the growing selection of similar games you can choose from out there.
It’s a bit ironic that this follow-up game comes with the subtitle “Gambler”, since RT has decided to remove the gambling feature which was included in the original game. However, the max win potential of 50,000x has been significantly boosted in this game, and therefore the volatility is also a bit higher. Here you also have a choice between 3 different bonus rounds. This kind of makes the original game obsolete, as the 12 free spins option is identical to the bonus round from the first game.
Pros
- Expanding wilds in the base game
- 3 free spins options with expanding wilds and symbols upgrade
- Medium to high volatility and 50,000x max win potential
Cons
- Base game is a grind with few wins of any significance
- Max win capped at £250,000
If you love Eye of Horus Gambler you should also try:
Since this game is somewhat related to the book slot series, it’s only natural that we recommend some of the better games from that franchise. There are so many these days, that it can be hard to keep up, but we have handpicked some of the best ones for you below. Follow the link to read more about each game, and try out the free demo version.
Legacy of Dead - is a Book of Dead clone that gives you the possibility to turn all 9 symbols into expanding symbols at the same time. This can only happen during the bonus round, of course, but you will also benefit from the fact that expanded symbols don’t need to be adjacent on the reels to create a win.
John Hunter And The Book Of Tut - is a somewhat simpler book slot in terms of features. The attraction here is not really a twist to the tale, but rather the John Hunter character. If you enjoy this franchise, with bridger visuals and more charm than many other book slots, then why not give this one a shot.
Book of Dead - is still number one, not only in the book slot series, but it’s pretty close to being number one of all time also. Of course, this slot is really a Book of Ra clone in many ways, but it started the big trend in the online casino world. It’s all about the free spins round with a chosen expanding symbol, and the max win of 5,000x sat the standard for most other games in the series.
