Montezuma (Swintt) Review
Swintt have already proven themselves with a few glamorous releases, but their repertoire is yet to become packed. With that in mind, it’s hardly surprising that they decided to launch a game with an Aztec theme. They decided to call it Montezuma, so after one of Aztec’s most famous rulers. The action takes place across 5 reels, 3 rows and 10 paylines, all of which pay from left to right.
There’s hardly anything interesting to be said about the game’s theme, but the truth of the matter is that the designers could’ve done a bit more with the audiovisuals. The graphics are colorful, true, but they are also rather basic on the whole.
Montezuma – Reels ScreenThe volatility of the Montezuma slot is low. The betting range makes the experience accessible to players with all kinds of bankrolls. The minimum that you can play for is £0.10, while high rollers can up the ante to as much as £100 per game round.
Unfortunately, the theoretical RTP of Montezuma is only 95.22%.Similar Slots:

Montezuma Slot Features
We’ve already had some complaints about the game’s graphics. The most pressing issue here are the symbols, which are so boring that it’s almost unreal. It’s fine that the low-paying symbols are about card ranks, but why exactly are the high-paying symbols only about gems. There are so many interesting bits that you can use in the Aztec theme, but Swintt decided to keep it so basic that it’s impossible to be excited.
The game’s special symbols - Temple Scatters and Montezuma Wilds - are much better.
Montezuma Slot – Free Spins FeatureMontezuma Wilds work as Expanding Wilds, so you can get quite a lot out of them. They can appear only on the middle three reels, but they always automatically expand to cover all positions on the given reel!
Land 3 or more Temple Scatters to trigger the Free Spins feature.
You’ll start with 12 free spins, but you can get more by finding more Scatters and Wilds. The twist here is that Wilds upgrade high-paying symbols, improving your payout potential in the process. Finally, Montezuma also offers players a chance to win more with the Gamble feature. It’s quite straightforward, you only have to guess the color or the suit of a face-down card. This way, you can double or even quadruple your payout, but you can also lose it in its entirety.
Review Summary
While we do get what Swintt were going for with Montezuma, it’s hard to be excited about the final product. The Free Spins feature is the only real highlight, though we naturally also like the Expanding Wilds. As for the minuses – the graphics are boring, the theoretical RTP is below average, and the overall feel of the slot is nothing to write home about. There are so many better slots out there that it doesn’t make much sense to play this one!
Pros
- Free spins with symbol upgrades
- Expanding Wilds
Cons
- Boring theme and graphics
- Poor 95.22% RTP
- Unexciting on the whole
