Hacksaw Gaming clearly has a thing for multipliers, and Hop N Pop is one of the most ordinary games we’ve seen from this creative bunch, at least in terms of the visual presentation. With a cartoonish farm in the background, you’ll see plenty of fruit symbols “pop” as they are removed from the grid when part of a winning cluster.

The “hop” in the title refers to the leaping, progressive multiplier symbol that starts all over as a single 2x multiplier between cascading sequences. You’ll land 49 symbols on each spin on the 7x7 grid, but the symbol values are not all that. You’re therefore at the mercy of the multiplier action to land anything of significance, and as you might expect, this is most likely to happen in the bonus round.

Hop N Pop Slot Features

The 2x starting multiplier leaps to a new random position on the grid per spin, sitting on top of the symbols. The multiplier is applied when the symbol it overlays is part of a winning combination. The multiplier will then either double in value as it jumps to a new position, or split in two.

If more than one multiplier occupies the same position, the values are added together. You can get up to 4 roaming multipliers at the same time, and the multiplier values can go as high as 64x for each of them.

The smiley cartoon sun with sunglasses is the scatter, and you need at least 3 anywhere in the same cascading sequence to trigger the Bonus Round.

The orange wild symbols are active during the bonus round only, stepping in for all regular pay symbols to help you form winning combos. The roaming multiplier(s) reset after each cascading sequence in the base game, but this is not the case during free spins. The multiplier values, and/or number of multipliers, will only keep growing until you reach the maximum of four 64x multipliers.

If allowed in your jurisdiction, you can skip the base game altogether, and simply buy the bonus round. You have 3 options, and you are guaranteed 3, 4 or 5 scatters on the next spin if you pay 100x, 200x or 400x your stake, respectively. The RTP is the same for all 3 options, but the volatility increases with the price.

Review Summary

We’ve learned to expect the unexpected from Hacksaw, and such a plain and straightforward visual presentation is not something you see too often from this studio. We don’t mind it really, and the squashed fruit animations are fun to watch. What we do mind however, is the unnecessary hiccup after each smaller win, and they are usually very small, due to the low symbol values.

The roaming and splitting progressive multiplier can, in theory, do some damage also in the base game, but it’s frustrating when everything resets. Buying the bonus round is therefore a big temptation here, if you have that possibility. Having several maxed out multipliers jumping around can wreak havoc to the tune of 12,500x your stake, which is solid. This is a decent enough effort overall, despite being somewhat of a ‘one trick pony’ compared to other grid slots.
