Crystal Quest: Arcane Tower Review
The bold explorer, Gemma, is back in another volatile and explosive adventure game from Thunderkick, and Crystal Quest: Arcane Tower takes you deep into an underground city. This is probably a good idea if you’re looking for crystals, but except for the change of scenery this follow-up title is very similar to the first game in the series.
This is a bit disappointing to be honest, even though the first game was highly entertaining. The only real difference here is that the Linked/Synced Reels feature has replaced the mystery symbols from Deep Jungle. The solid math model is the same as before, and the visual style is also similar. We might be taken by surprise, but it looks like future installments in this series will consist of a minor bonus feature replacement, and that’s it.

The Avalanche feature removes all winning symbols from the reels, and allows for new winning chances to drop from above. The feature goes on as long as you keep landing new winners, and the Infinity Multiplier increases by +1 for each win.

The Linked Reels feature triggers at random times before a spin plays out, and you will then see up to 6 adjacent reels in sync to land the same symbols. This feature can only trigger before a new spin however, and not in the middle of an Avalanche sequence.
You need to land 3 treasure chest scatters anywhere in sight to trigger the bonus round. This gives you 12 free spins to start with, and you will get 3 extra spins when you land 2 scatters during the feature. Every scatter above the minimum of 2 adds an additional 2 spins, and there is no cap on how many extra spins you can win this way.
The progressive multiplier does not reset on non-winning spins in the bonus round, and it does not have any upper limit here either. If you land wilds with no winning combos, the wilds will explode to remove regular symbols horizontally and vertically. This gives you a new symbol drop that might trigger a win to keep the Avalanche feature going.
The 200 Spins Crystal Quest: Arcane Tower Experience
We landed a decent win from the Linked Reels feature in the base game, and not too long after we managed to land 3 scatters. This gave us 12 free spins, and the bonus round plays out in most of the highlights video you can check out below.
Review Summary
Crystal Quest: Arcane Tower is a highly entertaining and powerful title from Thunderkick, but it’s a bit of a shame that it’s so close to being a pure reskin of the first game in the series.
The Swedish developer was never known for predictability, so it’s a bit surprising that they would take such a safe route with this follow-up title. That being said, Arcane Tower comes with a rock solid 15,000x potential, and you’ll be taken on a highly volatile thrillride here for sure. It’s got that oddly satisfying quality to the gameplay, and when all the features conspire in your favor it’s a marvel to behold. The main difference from Deep Jungle is that the mystery symbols have been replaced with Linked Reels, and we’re crossing our fingers for a bit more novelty in the next release in this series.
Pros
- Unlimited Avalanche multiplier
- Up to 6 synced reels at random times
- Bonus round with wild explosions on losing spins
- High volatility and 15,000x max win potential
Cons
- Almost a reskin of Crystal Quest: Deep Jungle
If you love Crystal Quest: Arcane Tower you should also try:
Crystal Quest: Deep Jungle - is the first game in Thunderkick’s Gemma series, and it takes place in the south american jungle. You can still win up to 15,000x your stake, and all the features are the same except that you’ll benefit from mystery symbols instead of synced reels.
Carnival Queen - is another Thunderkick classic that comes with similar features. It’s all about the unlimited avalanche win multiplier here also, and you can get an unlimited amount of extra spins in the bonus round. Payouts up to 22,700x your stake is possible here, which was record high when first released.
Gonzo's Quest Megaways - is the NetEnt flagship slot injected with a healthy dose of steroids. It comes with a base game win multiplier that triples during the bonus round, and you can land payouts up to 21,000x your stake here.
